NEF donates book to every Northwest ISD kindergarten student
Childhood literacy ranks among the most vital education matters across the world, and in support of this subject, the Northwest ISD Education Foundation (or NEF) has donated a book to every kindergarten student in Northwest ISD to kick off their educational journey.
As part of this initiative, every Northwest ISD kindergartner will receive “Rhyming Dust Bunnies” by Jan Thomas to encourage a lifelong commitment to reading. NEF encourages families of kindergartners to join its Kinder Club, where they can learn about how to support Northwest ISD teachers and students.
“Reading is among the most fundamental skills required across any profession or industry,” said Jenn Burton, executive director of NEF. “Northwest ISD has consistently championed reading at all grade levels, and we thought this was a great way to introduce the importance of reading at an early age.”
On Friday, August 26, all 20 Northwest ISD elementary schools will receive copies of “Rhyming Dust Bunnies” for each kindergartner. The book will help the students continue to develop their reading skills, and the copy each student receives is his or hers to keep.
The Northwest ISD Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization created and operated to support and enhance the quality of education in Northwest ISD. While its two main initiatives are to support teachers through grants and students with scholarships, it also operates many services to benefit students and teachers alike, such as a resource store and library where educators can receive free supplies.
